Hey! My names Chris...and I am definitely stoked for Kaleo!! Like oh man, I’ve been thinking that I would do it for a little while now (a year or 2) and now it’s actually coming and I’m accepted…WOW!! I’m so stoked that I feel God leading me so clearly and that it is to this program. From what I’ve seen, I don’t think there is a better way to start off than with the Kaleo program. So that’s my happy rant for the moment=) Me and God. So I have this amazing family, Mom, Dad, and older bro Matt who are all Christians…so the normal Christian fam, pretty sure I was at Sunday school the next Sunday after I was born! Being born into a Christian home, I accepted Jesus as my Saviour at a very young age that I can’t even really remember, probably around like 3 years old or something. Life was good and just normal, just doing the Christian kid thing of Sunday school and kid’s choir…then I hit gr 8 and youth group and playing on worship teams began. These gave me real opportunities to see other people living their faith, to be taught how to live my faith and to have older people like the pastors and leaders as role models. I’ve had amazing guys mentor me along the way from counselors to youth and worship pastors that have taken the time to hang out and share life with me. Then I went to Camp Qwanoes (It’s sounds kinda cliché to say it because Kaleo is at Qwanoes so it sounds like there’s just us camp kids going into Kaleo because it’s at our camp but it’s really not that so hear me out because it’s been an amazing place for me, and also somewhere that I’m very passionate about!!) I went as a camper and also got to be what we call a “staff kid” for a week or two a summer (my parents would help out for that time and I just got to hang out). So I got to not only be a camper and listen from the speaker and counselors and stuff but I also got to hang out with the staff and see the stuff they were going through their ministry and why they did what they did which was sweet! Then in 2005 I did the Counselor in Training program and I grew more and got to counsel for one week. Through that year 05/06 I was at camp lots on the weekends serving in different areas in the offseason…Then this past summer I did the Leader in Training program which was mostly junior counseling with some training which again helped me in becoming grounded in my faith and learning more about God and my relationship with Him. Through these years I was always involved in youth group and different worship teams which always helped me to grow. Then I must say even though there’s a lot of stuff that I did in those few years, I feel as though this past fall has been the most amazing in my walk with God. It’s like a line of connection has been opened up between us in a totally new way. He’s been teaching me things, about surrender and resting in His peace and so much more… and I’ve heard Him when like I read my Bible or do a devotion book and I hear what He’s saying to me and see Him in more things throughout the day. Like it feels like it’s been amazing….I’ve had definite downs this fall too but what God has been doing in me and teaching me is so amazing. So there’s me and God in pretty brief form! Hopefully it’s made sense, I’m recovering from my first ever all nighter that I did last night with my middle school youth group=) Well guys I hope more people are on here soon, can’t wait to hear from more and meet all of Kaleo 5…I’m praying for you guys!!

cough cough chris you forgot to mention in your biography when you met me, the awesomest kaleo 2 ever... and how I inspired you to coolness
:)
not sure if you inspired me to coolness or pyro but hey whichever works=) hahaha Thanks Kesler!
hey man!! sounds like we kinda came from the same sort of families growing up...on fire for God! lol right now im going to Ross Road Community Church in Abbotsford, been there all my life, the same one that Jenny goes to!! lookin forward to meeting u!!!
riiiiight lol i totally forgot about the other part of ur question...umm jenny, also a kaleoer, she found out about kaleo, and my brother goes to briercrest in sask. and from there i was like what an aweesome opportunity this is!!! sooooo yeah thats it for now!!
That's cool your bro's at briercrest! I know lots of people out there this year! what program is he in there? dude I'm so pumped that our blog is up!! I remember when last years kaleo blog started and I was like YES that means my year is next!! lol have a wicked day
downey im stoked for you and the other kaleo fives! there's so much I would like to say to you about Kaleo and the opportunities it brings, but every year is different! Mmm maybe just dive in and take it all in! God's going to do amazing things to you and through you. Good working with you a bit.
Janet Kaleo 4
lol ya i'm pretty much a keener its true! i tottaly though that there were going to be so many more people applying early i was afriad that it was going to be full...but i suppose not...for now anyhow! But hey its way better to be early than to late right!? anywho ya Squeah is in hope...dunno if that helps you too much or not!
ya scotty an di were talking about if we were planning on comming up to visit, i think i might if i have a pro d day and i think scotty is thinking the same thing but i mean who knows if we will have one the same day! that would be nice but ya never know but if we start making a pan we will diffinitly let you know!
So have you been attending camp for a long time?
A little while...maybe 5 years? Not as long as some people but still a good few years, been on staff for 2 summers, how long have you been at Squeah? Camp's pretty much amazing, I love it so much! Did you do mostly counseling this summer?
Chris Downey! Reading your story remembering the times you were a stamper and we had sweet action fights on the aqua park made me smile. I'm pretty sure you could beat me now but I got to dominate for like 4 years so i'm ok with it. Dude I'm so stoked that another Downey is doing a kaleo. I'll probably be at briercrest next year but maybe I'll beable to come visit you putzes with a prof or something. Anyway I hope you have an amazing year at kaleo in 2007 -2008. I have found that for me kaleo wasn't super impactful in the way i thought it would be but it created such a solid base for the spiritual growth I'm doing now. In essence it changed the way I think or rather God changed the way I think while I was there! Can't wait to hear who else will be going. Peace and tell Matt hes still a Putz!
yeah man, whos your bro? I'm @ B-crest as I write this...anywhoo, welcome to the Kaleo Community bro!
ps. Downey...about time!!!! LOL
Hey, i've only gone to Squeah for two years my first year i was a camper then my second i did the senior leadership program so i was there for 4 weeks and each week we did something different, week 1 out trip, 2week on paper learning of councleing stuff, 3 week activity leader and support staff in a cabin, week 4 co-counceling!
o nice thats sweet you've been there for a while! when you were on staff were you there for the whole summer?
Hey thanks you OLD kaleo guys=P Derkson hopefully cu soon (Jaarsma wedding?)! Haws pretty sure you could beat me still, i'm not soo good anymore except with the jrs! And thanks JJ!
Yeah Jenny I was there most of the summer, took one week off. The first year with CIT I had 2 weeks of training, one week of junior counseling and then the rest were in operation support crew...aka dish pit=) then this past summer LIT was junior counseling for 5 weeks, one week of training and 2 weeks of operations and activity staff...it was amazing! hey question, are you guys going to do any of the extra provincials this year? like Geography or History...?? I'm trying to decide but leaning towards not
haha whoa my bro is craig thiessen, in youth min. if you know him..or know somebody who knows him..that'd be awesome!!
uh if your talking to me...don't really know if thats the case but i'll answer anyways cuz it makes me feel special...umm i'm taking the history provincial in exactly two weeks from today!! praaaaaay lol
Hey Bro, I aren’t you forgetting an important member of your family??? :)
-Craymer
Maybe if you ever came and visited, then I would have remembered to add you in sis=) but ah yes then there's my older sis who lives far away and never visits, that better?;)
Provincials in 2 weeks!!! who's excited??? I am now=)=) I decided today after talking with the fam and Columbia Bible college that I'm not going to take the optional history and geography exams...so now I no longer have 3 provincials to do in 2 weeks but only the one eng prov!! I'm pretty stocked=)
O ya! i tottaly forgot that they or optional...interesting....i only hav eto take english this semester but next semester i'll have two, geography and french! that'll be exciting... but i'm really not looking forward to writting essays everyday in english to get ready... o well i'll live i suppose!
That sounds alright I guess! 2 weeks today till english! and I still have most of the Hamlet stuff to do...so all week I get to work on Hamlet..yeeeaaaahhhh=( oh and just so you guys know, craymer is my adopted (not legally or anything) sis, kaleo2/kaleo3 intern who lives in the states, who never visits her Canadian fam...=)
Christopher, My aren't you popular! I'm not going to lie, the english 12 provincial sucked!! It was pretty much all Sally's fault!! How do you right an essay about someone when everything is very simple..(Does on very long rant about english provinical...) anyway! once you are done filling your head with english knowldge, coffee must be had...
~Kristen
Ps: Enjoy that Kaleo program, I'll be visiting to see Aimee and Sheri... I guess I could say hi to you to
I think I have to agree with Kristen, the English provincal pretty much sucks unless your good at English.I think the worst part was that is was very long and it took me a very long time to do it. They give you 3 hours and I'm pretty sure it took me almost 3 hours to do it.Anyways that was my rant about English provincals. Coffee is good too. Drinking it during the English provincal is a must.
-Aimee
P.S. 236 days!!!
English was easy, Never studied and pulled 88% ! Lol Chris is quite popular but he has the advantage of being quite involved in Qwanoes and also had his older brother do kaleo 3 so at least half of the people who have done kaleo thus far probably know him! Oh and did someone say they're a Thiessen? My little bros girl friend is a thiessen she lives here in Vic? Are you related to any thiessens in ViC?
I’m sorry bro, you know I would be there in a minute if I had the cash. But I must say you haven’t made too big of an effort to visit me. Ehem! The door is always open my friend.
- Craymer
P.S. You also forgot about Tova.
yes im a thiessen...dont have any relatives over there tho!
Haws you're amazing...so ok the exam is hard...yet it's easy, got it!!
but sis you're the one with the job, I'm a poor high school student going to bible college next year! but alas hopefully you'll be able to come to the Jaarsma wedding (first ever kaleo to kaleo wedding!!!!!) and yes I apologize guys I did forget to mention my dog=)
so I wonder if anyone else has applied yet...so pretty much this time next year we will all be on mount washington skiing and boarding for the week...those lucky kaleo kids up there this week!!!
O i totally wish i was up on the mountain right now!!! bah!!! And we'll be up thier over my birthday! so stoked!!!
hm.... i'm not even sure when missions fest is! or where!
That's going to be amazing next year!!! so awesome! missions fest is in 1 1/2 weeks...downtown at Canada Place, it'd be wicked if you guys could come cause I'll be there and probably aimee, and Jim and Amanda the kaleo leaders will be there and all of this years kaleo kids, so pretty much it'd be awesome!
you know you're getting old when...
you don't actually recognize who people are by their blogger name cause there are so many of them now!!!
GAH!!! I have kaleo 1-3 cased but as for kaleo 4 and 5? sorry kids but one day when we do a big kaleo reunion then i guess ill meet most of you. minus that downey kid..
minus that downey kid...wow that didn't sound very positive and encouraging!! gosh no respect=) I still think we'll need to start a kaleo seniors home...can u imagine?!? and Kesler maybe you'll just have to come visit next year, eh?
no no no you read it wrong..wait i re read that... i wrote it wrong..
i mean to say i guess i'll have to wait forever before i meet most of them.. miinus that downey kid (cause for one we've already met each other, and 2 I'll probably see you again in the near future.)
there thats better
Ahhh I really dont want to study right now that why im sending comments to Kaleo five which will keep me from thinking of studying!!
